Medical Assisted Weight Loss with Semaglutide

What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist, which means it mimics the hormone GLP-1 that the body naturally produces. Semaglutide lowers blood sugar levels after meals by stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion. Semaglutide slows down the release of sugar into your blood, so your body in turn burns more fat.

Semaglutide also delays stomach emptying, which leaves you feeling full faster. You will also feel full for a longer period of time, which limits your overall calorie consumption.

Several clinical studies show that weekly Semaglutide injections are highly effective at promoting weight loss. In one study, individuals treated with Semaglutide lost an average of 9-13 percent of their body weight over the course of a year without making any changes to their diet and exercise habits. However, it is shown that diet and exercise habits play a key part in receiving this medication.

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • Book a consult with our board-certified Nurse Practitioner

  • Get lab work done within 6 months of treatment (comprehensive metabolic panel, complete blood count (CBC), thyroid panel, lipid panel, and hemoglobin A1C)

What to expect during treatment:

During your appointment, our staff will explain the procedure and answer any questions. We will discuss whether you are a candidate for Semaglutide, what your health goals are, and make an individualized and thorough treatment plan. We will take body composition measurements prior to administering the medication. The actual injection of Semaglutide will take seconds and is relatively painless.

What to expect after treatment:

You may experience mild side effects after your first few doses including gastrointestinal upset, nausea, heartburn, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, or dizziness. Your provider will be in contact with you weekly for the first 4 weeks to ensure your dosing is correct and to help manage any side effects you may experience. Your dosing will increase monthly if you are tolerating the dosing, which will be further explained in your consult and education. You will be periodically visiting our office to monitor your body composition as you continue to take Semaglutide.

Is it for me?

Semaglutide is for individuals who are looking for a medical way to manage their weight. You must be in good health, have recent lab work done, and have a BMI of 27 or above. If you have a BMI less than 27, you may still be considered for Semaglutide – this will be determined in your initial consultation. For Semaglutide to be fully beneficial, a healthy diet is necessary, as well as regular exercise. We recommend 20 minutes of exercise daily or taking 10,000 steps a day. If you are not able to commit to a healthier lifestyle, you may want to reconsider if this is a safe or viable option for you.
